Prior Pons

Vineyards

Current vineyard extension is 10 hectare. All of them belong to Jou’s family, and are placed within La Vilella Alta municipal district. Divided in several parcels, at a height between 300 and 400 meters above sea level.

We work with region’s traditional grape varieties, as carignan and grenache, accompanied by cabernet sauvignon. Our harvesting methods are very respectful with the plant and soil, and clarifying technics leave very few grapes by vine, looking for maximum sugar and polyphenols concentration.

Vines are between 10 and 60 years old. Carignan vines from Cabanet and Les Planes estates are the oldest. They were planted in 1946. The youngest are cabernet sauvingnon vines, from L’Espitlla estate, planted in 1995. Grape production by hectare, for the oldest vines is below 1.000 kgs, meanwhile it is around 2.000 kgs for the youngest.

There are two additional estates, planted in 2003, with 12.600 new vines of grenache, carignan, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah. They will produce grapes in a few years, and will allow to increase wine production in a near future.
